How do you plan a murder mystery party?

Im turning 17 in march (i live in australia so it will be autumn, but not cold.) and i want to have a murder mystery party. How do I even start? what do i have to do with the whole murder thing? any idea for an additional games, food, music, themes?

We’ve had two of these over the years – and both times wrote our own. But we had been to several and are familiar with how they are supposed to flow. You have to have a story – many different parts for the guests to play, and cards with the lines on them.
What I would suggest is you go to a bookstore or amazon.com and get a Murder Mystery Kit – they are usually less than $25 USD and include everything you need. It is a good way to do your first one this way.
Depending on which one you buy (there are tons available) you can select food items for your party that will go along with the theme – and other games as well – but the Murder Mystery usually takes up the entire evening.

I don’t know if they have a tk maxx in Australia (it’s like a discount store where all the last season’s stuff gets sent and you can but it really cheap!)
But we recently bought a murder mystery kit (the box kits!) for £5!
which is really good!!
Alternatively, you could look online at someone who has already participated in one – and use theirs. Just make sure you write your own invites cos theirs might’ve been used!
