Kinect Joins The Motion Control Party
November 11, 2010Let battle commence! The motion control party just went nuclear with the release of Xbox 360 Kinect, with Microsoft hoping to gain ground quickly on Sony’s Playstation Move controller and Nintendo’s long-established Wii console. Microsoft are showing characteristic confidence though, and they anticipate 5 million sales in the holiday period, after having previously announced they were expecting a conservative 3 million..
Whichever you choose though, all types of motion control pioneered by the Wii are available and with the true next-generation presentation they all deserve. Kinect Sports faces off against Move’s Sports Champions with both titles giving you a wide selection of track, field, racket, ball and fighting minigames suitable for players of all abilities. Add to these dedicated golf, tennis and general fitness games on both platforms, and you have a packed gymnasium full of active titles. But do you have rhythm? Both systems have dance games for some butt-shaking action: Kinect’s Dance Central goes up against Sony stalwart SingStar Dance during launch week.
One key difference that Kinect and Playstation Move (when paired with Eyetoy) have over Wii at the moment is the number and range of camera-enabled titles. The two peripherals competently match each other’s ambition: if Eyepet’s cute monkey/koala/gremlin hybrid isn’t fuzzy enough for you, perhaps the similar hands-on interaction with the big-cat cubs of Kinectimals will win you over to this new generation of virtual pet. Later, forthcoming Kinect and Move title Yoostar 2 will put you and your friends in the starring role of your favourite movie scenes.
with these and many more titles in the pipeline, there has never been a better way to invest in the longevity of your machine. If hand-flailing and movement isn’t entirely your thing, perhaps the inclusion of Kinect and Move exclusive modes in your favourite upcoming games will get your attention. Kinect has Forza Motorsport 4, Kinect Star Wars and Sonic Free Riders and Sony has Moved functionality lined up for Killzone 3, Infamous 2 and Little Big Planet 2.
